"Black Power" is a political slogan that emphasizes Black pride and the creation of Black institutions to nurture and promote the collective interests, and advance the values, of our people.

The earliest known usage of the term is found in a 1954 book by Richard Wright entitled Black Power. The earliest known example of "Black Power" being used as a political slogan was in 1966 when Stokely Carmichael (aka Kwame Ture) used it during a rally.

"Black Power" expresses a range of goals, from defense against racial oppression, to the establishment of political, cultural, and social institutions and a self-sufficient economy. As New York politician Adam Clayton Powell Jr. said, "Human rights are God-given... To demand these God-given rights is to seek Black power."

Show the world that you are proud to be Black and that you are standing up for your God-given rights.
